A multiplier is not a standalone win
Multipliers are the core mechanic in Gates of Olympus from Pragmatic Play, but they are easy to misread. A winged orb showing 50x or 500x looks like a ready-made prize, yet it pays nothing on its own. First, the 6×5 grid must land a cluster of at least eight matching symbols. Only then does the multiplier enter the win calculation.
This rule explains the most common point of confusion in the demo: Zeus may throw a noticeable multiplier, but the spin still ends up with no payout. The function has not disappeared; there was simply no paying cluster. A multiplier enhances an existing win, but it does not replace one.
What happens during a cascade
After each payout, the winning symbols disappear and new ones drop into the empty spaces. This is called a cascade. If the new symbols form a cluster of eight or more again, the calculation continues within the same spin.
Multipliers can appear not only on the first drop, but also after a subsequent cascade. If several multipliers land during a winning sequence, their values are added together. For example, 5x, 25x, and 100x create a total multiplier of 130x. They do not produce 12,500x and they do not multiply each other.
A simplified example looks like this: a symbol combination pays 2x the stake, and Zeus adds 25x and 50x. The total multiplier is 75x, so the result of that winning sequence will be 150x the stake. This illustrates the calculation order; it does not promise any particular frequency or payout size.
Why a big multiplier can still produce a modest result
The final outcome depends not only on the number on the winged orb, but also on the base value of the cluster. A 100x multiplier applied to a small win can produce less than 25x on a high-value group made up of many premium symbols. That is why looking only at the maximum multiplier is not enough.
Cluster size matters too. In Gates of Olympus, payouts are awarded for 8 to 30 matching symbols, and the win increases as the group grows. A strong result combines three elements: a large cluster, a winning cascade, and a multiplier that lands at the right moment.
How the bonus meter differs from the base game
In the regular game, multipliers apply to the current cascade sequence and do not carry over to the next paid spin. Free spins work differently. The bonus starts with 15 spins after four or more Scatters land, and multiplier values from winning spins are added to the round's total meter.
Suppose the meter starts at zero at the beginning of the bonus. In one winning spin, 5x and 10x appear, so the meter rises to 15x. Later, another winning multiplier of 25x lands, bringing the total to 40x. The accumulated value remains active until the end of the bonus and is applied to eligible wins. That is why an early increase in the meter matters: there are more spins left for it to pay off.
Three or more Scatters during the bonus add five free spins. The extension matters not on its own, but as extra time for an already accumulated multiplier. Even so, a high meter does not guarantee a strong finish: it still needs paying clusters.
How multipliers differ across the series
In the original Gates of Olympus, the range goes up to 500x. In Gates of Olympus 1000 and Gates of Olympus Xmas 1000, the upper limit increases to 1000x. The core principle does not change: multipliers add together, they need a win, and free spins use a cumulative meter.
Gates of Olympus Super Scatter returns to the 2x–500x range, but adds separate cash prizes for special Super Scatters. They cannot be mixed with the standard winged multipliers: these are two different features.
What to watch for in the demo
To understand the mechanic, it helps to track four events: the size of the winning cluster, the number of cascades, the moment the multiplier appears, and whether there is a payout on that same stage. In free spins, the total meter is added to that list. This kind of breakdown quickly shows why two visually similar spins end with different results.
Multipliers make Gates of Olympus spectacular, but the math remains strict. A multiplier without a cluster does not pay, several multipliers add together, and the bonus meter needs subsequent wins to keep growing. Understanding these three rules is more useful than trying to guess when Zeus will throw the next orb.
